Christine (Junge) staat model voor een nieuw schilderij. Omdat ik haar heel makkelijk kan schilderen maak ik eerst nog eens een portretje van haar naar een foto die ik laatst bij haar maakte. Dat plaatje hield me de laatste tijd erg bezig. Dan moet ik het schilderen.

Het fotootje is gemaakt met de GoPro. Dat geeft die extreme groothoek die ik ook zo prachtig vind. Zo’n groothoek stelt je in staat om in kleine ruimtes te fotograferen maar geeft wel een wat vertekend beeld. Het geeft extra dynamiek aan het werk en ook dat schilder ik mee. Het schilderij dat ik straks ga maken gaat over de ‘aardappelrevolutie’ (in Griekenland). Ik zal daar zelf ook model voor gaan staan als boer (met aardappelen). Christine doet iets heel vrolijks met dans en, natuurlijk, zwart witte streepjes.

Today I’m working on a small portrait of Christine (Junge). Painted from a photo I took of her with the GoPro camera a few day’s ago. I paint also the extreme wide angle. A wide-angle lens refers to a lens whose focal length is substantially smaller than the focal length of a normal lens for a given film plane. This type of lens allows more of the scene to be included in the photograph, which is useful in architectural, interior and landscape photography where the photographer may not be able to move farther from the scene to photograph it. I like that extreme wide view and paint that as well.

Christine is the main model for my new painting ‘The patato-revolution’ (in Greece). That’s a painting I will do afther I finished her small portrait. Christine is the sweet danser and I will take the role of the patato-farmer for that painting.

‘S-avonds kan ik kijken naar wat ik heb gepresteerd. Er staan twee werken in mijn woonkamer. Weerzien in Giza en het portret van Isabelle. Beiden zijn verzonnen karakters uit mijn boek. Links Louise Sparks, en rechts, haar grootmoeder, Isabelle Poncheau. En ineens zie ik dat mijn verhaal in beeld begint te komen. Twee generaties spookvrouwen. De schilderijen gaan straks ook een rol spelen in het verhaal. Het zijn niet louter en alleen illustraties voor het boek.

Late in the evening, I can watch my labour and progress in the serie of painings I did for the bookstory. Two generations Ghost women are visible now. Left Louise Sparks and on the Right her grandmother Isabelle Poncheau. Both paintings will play an active role in the bookstory. The paintings are not just illustrations, but wil play their own part in the story.
